Department of the Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. The Department of Mechanical Engineering plays a crucial role in identifying and grading an institute. Though, the development of Mechanical Engineering can be traced back to several thousand years around the world, Mechanical engineering emerged as a prominent field during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th century. Mechanical Engineering emphasizes on Design, Materials & Manufacturing, Thermal Engineering, and also interdisciplinary areas like CAD/CAM/CAE, Automation, Operational Research, Mechatronics, FEM, Managerial Aspects of Industry, etc. The field has continually evolved to incorporate advancements in technology, and mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in such fields as composites, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. The Department is committed to produce top class Mechanical Engineering professionals through academic excellence and quality education. The department was started in the year 1997. The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty members and they are committed to excellence in teaching. Interactive relationship is maintained between students and the staff which enables the students to develop sound foundation.

To imbibe knowledge and to develop skill based and research oriented Mechanical Engineers to meet the global challenges in technology.

Mission

  • To imbibe fundamental and advanced technologies of Mechanical Engineering in teaching learning process and also to produce high ethical, right spirited and mighty mechanical engineers.
  • To train students practically in labs, workshop, project works etc to meet present industrial standards.
  • To train students with hand and soft skills and other training programs for their future jobs and higher studies.
  • To develop research skills, consultancy activity and entrepreneurship skills to face the future academic and other goals.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):

The department will arrange to develop the young minds:

PEO1: To enhance basic knowledge of Advanced Mathematics, Science and Engineering for students to solve engineering problems.

PEO2: To inculcate the ability to gain multi disciplinary knowledge through projects and industrial training to meet the industrial needs through value based mechanical engineering.

PEO3: To prepare the students for a successful career with practical knowledge to handle advanced manufacturing processes, effective communication skills and team work skills.

PEO4: To engage in lifelong learning, career enhancement, possessing knowledge of research and consultancy activities to changing professional and societal needs.

PEO5: To provide sufficient training and placement to all the students so that they demonstrate technical competence in the industry.

Department focuses on:

  • Invited lecturers from academic and industry experts are being arranged
  • Faculty members deliver seminars on the chosen topics.
  • Faculty members are encouraged to attend Seminars/Workshops/Conferences etc.,
  • Faculties are motivated to pursue their higher studies.

Road map for the development of the department:

The department aims to become an excellence in all areas related to Mechanical Engineering in the next five years. To achieve this following initiative has been taken up

  • Establishing Consultancy cell ( Providing technical expertise to small scale and large scale manufacturers)
  • Starting Research centre.
  • Establishing Entrepreneurship development cell. ( In association with financial institutions like KSFC, IDBI, EDD ) and also with local small and medium scale traders)

Long term goals

  • To become a school of excellence in Mechanical Engineering faculty
  • Strengthen Industry - Institution - Interaction.
  • To enhance interaction with Industries to undertake Consultancy
  • Facilitate Research and development activities
  • Start PG programs in the emerging field of Mechanical Engineering like CAD/CAM, Mechatronics, Composites, and Nano- Materials.

Short term goals

  • To encourage all staff members to pursue their higher studies
  • To encourage all the staff and students to present technical papers in National/International seminars/workshops/ conferences and journals.
  • To go for energy auditing of the department.
  • To set up Entrepreneurship development cell.
